Last Sunday Archie led our mid-October fungus foray with the help of mycologist Ron. It poured with rain but that didn't dampen the spirits of the 10 or so people who braved the weather in search of the weird and wonderful members of the fungal kingdom! 44 species were found and identified by Archie. 7 recognised as rare/extremely rare. Lots of Mycenae species. Please see photos (check out Mycena adscendens!) and full report in our Wildlife section. Thank you once again, Archie and Ron, and all the brave souls who parted grass, scraped trees and dug soil in the rain looking for their glimpse into the fungal kingdom! Here's a link to Archie's spreadsheet on types of fungus found in Park Wood >> We had a fabulous evening with Andrew Milne guiding us round Park Wood in the twilight hours, spotting bats and 'hearing' them with the bat detector! The bats were out in full force and we saw plenty 'Flittermice' in the woods.
Many thanks to Andrew for being a brilliant bat guide. Image courtsey of Sue Patchett. Explore the history and archaeology of Harden Moor with a Roman Legionary.
From prehistoric settlement and carved stones, to Roman Roads and medieval enclosure there is plenty to see and discover. Join Chris the Archaeologist/Roman! On this FAMILY FRIENDLY walk as he highlights the archaeology of the moor. The walk will follow public footpaths and tracks. The terrain is moderate, avoiding steep slopes. Dogs must be kept on a lead. The walk will begin at 10am, meeting at Cross Green Top Carpark on Harden Moor, off Keighley Road. The walk will last no more than 2hrs 30mins (3mi/5km) To book contact: Chris.Atkinson@pennineprospects.co.uk More info here: www.facebook.com/events/2392933077647563/ |
