8 bird boxes were gifted to us in total and specifically designed for Great Spotted Woodpecker, Robins, Coal Tits and Blue Tits.
Here's some general info on placing bird boxes:
- boxes do best where food supply is plentiful but nesting sites scarce
- 50% take up is a good result
- shelter from prevailing wind and rain/sun
- height is less important than protection from predators (birds, squirrels, rats, cats, people)
- they need to be cleaned every year - health and safety very important issue
